either your mic is bad, your mic cable is bad, or your batt box/deck input is bad. if there isnt a good connection with the batt box or mics youll get only one channel..
till you figure it out you can cut the good channel and paste it.
Id have someone look at your inputs.

thanks Ray, im really hoping its not the mics, as for the Dat it was fully reconitoned a few months back new heads ect motor and its been working like a charm,i think your correct the source of the problem could be the wiring to the box and not the mics them selfs.. i pray lol, ty buddy

no problem.
i suspect the batt box....input.

I think DKlein is our resident guru with these sort of things. Hell be able to tell you for sure I think.
If you overlook the comments from Jackasses IE above, youll learn a whole lot. I mention the battery box input jack because that has been an issue before here.
Just gotta know what to filter out.and what to let sink in. ;)

Hey Ray - Im thinking of a number...what is it?
Maybe DKlien knows...
No offense dude...it just didnt seem like the guy told you enough to make even an educated guess...
Input?...maybe...maybe.

a worn out female mini jack in the dat
A bad connection in the mini jack plug in or out of the batt. box
a loose wire or bad solder in the batt box
bad dat tape.....rare, but have been documented. try wiggling the mic cables around when you record..playback the recording...are the levels both there?

johnnyb - hook your DAT up to a CD player, put it in record mode, and verify that the problem isnt in the decks input...check both inputs...And try a tape that you know has both channels - make sure the output of the deck is working properly...
Also, try to get your hands on another recorder..or something you can connect the battbox/mics up to - check for signal. Cassette deck...anything that you can hook them up to.
You can at least narrow down the issue that way...

6 ;D
Post again if you haven't isolated the problem and need some troubleshooting tips.

thanks everyone for there fast replies, you guys are the best,
well after trying all of the above remedies the one channel recording is still there, but i did notice on the male plug that plugs into the dat that it looks a tad bent and perhaps cracked, So i emailed Core sound who put the battery box mic package together for me yrs ago for a estiamte on how to fix this, still waiting for a response lol.
