Just curious if most have kept their master tapes/DAT's? or dumped them to .flac and/or DVD-r then sold/traded the DAT's? I'm thinking about moving towards the MicroTrack in the next 6-12 months and would love to get rid of all my DAT tapes and player.
Thanks...
Steve

Hept em, have them in boxes even though I am sure they will probably never get listened to.
Also have two Fostex D5's and a sony D8 that I am not sure why I am holding on to but don't want to get rid of for some reason. :P :)
Old habits die hard I guess, even when they are not active habits...

i have all my dat masters. don't know if i'll ever get around to transferring the ones that have yet to be transferred though as those are not really a priority. I'll probably keep them forever(as long as they might last) in the box they are in now.

keeping the master's for now. i also have two d5's that i should probaly get rid of, and keep the trashcan for tape archival/transfer
-
kept them, i gave away some select phish shows that i had already converted to flac/dvd-r
but i have converted about 50% of my dat collection to dvd-r/flacs, so only 50% to go when i feel like buying a cheap dat deck!
if it isnt converted, its not going anywhere, and even the ones that are converted sit in the 'converted' box for prolly sometime(years)
i'm anal, so sue me ;)

I converted and kept them (I am the 'other' vote). I never would sell used audio DATs to anyone. Besides, there is a little of that ol'Deadhead in me that screams 'hey man, that tape was AT THE SHOW'!

I keep all mine....I am a pack rat and refuse to get rid of anything...especially music

I'm in the process of transfering all my DATS to the 722 for conversion to FLAC/DVD and will keep all the DAT masters. However I do remember giving away about 3000 cassettes on Phish summer tour 2000. It was painful to think about the time and money I was giving away but I just could not lug those crates around anymore.

Ive kept all my masters and still have three decks D7, M1, DA-20. I still have a box of blanks. Ill use my DAT occasionally and try to reuse tapes I have duplicates of.
-
'hey man, that tape was AT THE SHOW'!
thats my excuse too.
still can't bring my self to get rid of my cassettes and none of them are masters, except for maybe a couple of FM recordings.
-
i've kept all of mine. they're just gathering dust in boxes and on shelves, but I still have them
-
It's my hope to turn them all into Flac/DVDR discs, but I'm a ways off from that. Will probably trade them away for spindles once I make some significant progress. All the space the tapes are taking up could be used for storing the Flac discs.
-
Since my D7 died and it is not worth repairing, I have borrowed a friends D8 and I'm in the process of doing massive transfers to flac. I will then pack them away and keep them for old times sake.
-
Haven't gone there yet. I own a JB-3, but not a DVD burner, so I sit here and burn 16/44.1 wav then transfer to flac on CD-R from all my DAT masters. Then I store them in a metal filing cabinet and don't ever plan to get rid of them.
Then there's the over 1,000 cassette masters.........................still have them too! Only have about 100 of them converted so far! Of course my wife wonders why I have to keep them all. ;D
