updated September 2, 2005
Sound Devices 722 firmware revision 1.46 provides the following key fixes and features:
fixed - 722 now behaves well with other devices on the same FireWire bus.
fixed - 1394 will now connect after the unit has been in REC mode.
fixed - sleep mode on Mac now works - Mac can go into and come out of sleep and 722 stays connected.
fixed - eject on Mac works without sometimes bringing up "drive not closed down properly" on 722.
fixed - powering up the 722 after being connected to a Mac no longer gives "unrecognized disk" error on Mac.
fixed - general plug/unplug connection robustness is greatly improved.
fixed - file corruption on transfer bug.
change - 1394 cable can stay plugged in at all times.
change - connection to computer can be initiated from the menu or button shortcut [STOP] and [HDD].
change - 722 is disconnected via "eject" on computer.
change - in Windows XP/2000, right-click now shows "Eject" option to disconnect the 722.
change - 722 appears as removable media on Mac (white icon). This was necessary to make sleep mode work properly and robustly.
In actual files, the coding history field in the BEXT chunk has been increased in size.
see known issues below
see latest 722 User Guide for firmware version 1.42+ ( ~920 KB)
Known Issues
FireWire - The FireWire implementation in firmware revision 1.46 is not fully speed-optimized. Expect download throughput between 22–32 Mb/s, depending on the platform and bus type.
FireWire - The FireWire implementation provides connection and transfer to/from the internal hard drive only. Compact Flash is not available via FireWire.
FireWire - The internal hard drive cannot be formatted from Windows 2000.
MP3 Encoder - The Analog Devices licensed MP3 encoder sounds poor at all bit rates.
These known issues will be addressed in future revisions of firmware.

This sounds like a nice FW improvement. I hope the speed optimization is next if this release proves stable.
-
thanks for the update nick!
-
we shall see how stable it is...I have the silos from 3-4:15, mandorico from 10-11 and tishamingo from 11:30-2...been too long since I have had a good solid full day of tunes

fixed - eject on Mac works without sometimes bringing up "drive not closed down properly" on 722.
this was starting to become a problem for me the more my HDD was filled up with my powerbook. other than that i had been working without any issues. nice to see they fix the one thing that was becoming an issue for me :)
