Hi,
Newbie here. I have an Edirol R1, and am using it for recording jazz/classical in rooms and small venues, so nothing too loud. I'm using a small electret mic and the mic-in jack. I find that I have to turn the input level quite high in order to pick up something. The problem is a fair bit of hiss/noise is apparent at that point...... someone people have suggested getting a preamp/batt box and using the line-in jack to record. Would this be a good solution? If so, what would be a decent preamp for $100-200....?
thanks,
jazzman

I don't know about their sound quality but soundprofessionals.com has a few options for you.
I bought a battery box from them a few months ago, and was very happy with the service. Not much to say about a battery box, it works.
Anyway, I'd certainly buy from them again. Good people.
