Title: mbho/480 question?
Post by: F.O.Bean on September 17, 2005, 10:10:08 PM
so im sitting here listening to ian stones camp bisco from the first nite mbho603a/ka200n>722(dither/resampled to 16/44.1k) and im really blown away, and these things seem WAY more reliable than when they came out of course

so my ultimate question is:

the ho's are pretty bright and sound fantastic thru the 722, do you think the 480's would have the same similar birghtness ??? cause if so, they may be the perfect match to run into a 722 ;D

im really contemplating this move, i love grace, and id love to move into the 24-bit realm, and may do it sooner than i thought

if i sold the v3+jb3+battery setup, id have about 1600 or so, maybe more for the 722

how much are they exactly running w/ a 40GB HD and a battery ???

does anybody have any 480>722 recordings ??? im VERY interested in hearing them!

thanks for your opinions,
Bean

Do it Bean - do it. A giant step forward!

And think of this - if you do not like the 480/722 combo - sell it!
Your mics would pull good $$ if you change them - or the 722 would if you went a different pre/adc/recorder route.

I'm really happy going from 480  to MBHO.  Main reason was the similar sound and the almost zero cost to get actives (Sell akgs get HOs ~$100 out of pocket mainly for kwon bars i'm figuring).  I'm sure there are some 480 > 722 sources out there.

bobby doesn't run the 722.  but  I know for a fact they ran 481 > 722 fob in raliegh for wsp but got the "media to slow" error.  me and jimbo ran my 481's from the ceiling > v3 (analog out) > 744 for mike clark.  I ran my jb3 out of my v3 but have yet to hear the 24/96 version.  hint hint ;)

Why not just off the JB3 and go to the microtracker to get to 24 bit.

Don't do it Bean...wait it out a little longer...microtracker, etc to use for 24bit (which isn't all its cracked up to be)...you will miss the V3 ;D

youre prolly right, i just think the 480>722 would sound nice and warm musically and would have the all in one box

my playback isnt up to par for 24-bit anyway, so its no use to me really at this point anyway!

16-bit sounds fine to my ears!

While I know the 722 is a giant step forward in the tapers evolution I still have yet to hear any SMOKIN' tapes from them.  A bunch of really nice ones but none that just make you want to sell all your shit to buy one.  I feel like the 722/744/MicroTracker/etc. are really just the first batch of new recorders to hit the market.  The 24 bit market is still in its infancy.  Hold on to what you have.  Its a proven winner, the 722 isn't yet.

I hear ya. I really only need something to write data - I'm not giving up my v2/ad2k!
722 would be overkill for that
