I am guessing figure 8 but want to be sure. Just got a recording that was AKG 460/CK8

Google is your friend, type it in, and holy fuck, first result gives you a complete description!

They call it hypercardioid but it looks more like a short shotgun.
Part of the CMS series, in conjunction with the C451 pre-amp, the CK8 has a narrow acceptance angle making it suitable for 'float' use or for medium distance recording. Please note that this microphone exhibits a small pick-up lobe to the rear as well.

yeah, it's definitely a shottie capsule...

FWIW the CK4 is a figure of 8, but only works with the 450 series, not the 460 series (even with the thread adapter).

It's a short shotgun. I had a pair of the ck8's that I used for big outdoor gigs w/ my JW mod 460's. These are some fantastic shotguns. Amazing sound. And even better when paired with the mod 460's. Not thin and tin sounding like most guns. BTW, the ck8's were made for the 451's. An adaptor is needed to run w/ the 460's. For those of you with mod 460's, pick up a pair of these caps if you ever come across them. Great for the big festival stuff. Many classic Grateful Dead shows were taped with these caps.

Go to google, type in AKG ck8, the first link is where i got that picture from.
They are selling 2 of them, for 100 pounds sterling each (I think $200 each) which isn't great but isn't bad.
You won't be disappointed im sure.

Any data on the CK8s? Dynamic range? Sensitivity? Noise? What adapter would be needed for 480s?
AKG shotgun caps:
CK8s - designed for 451 series.
CK9s - designed for 460 series
CK68s - designed for both 460s and 480s
CK69s - designed for 480s.
I'd love to a set of CK69s. But they cost a kidney BFN. CK68s are the predecessor.
-
Check that the CK9s were designed for the 451s too.
CK8 - short shotgun
CK9 - long shogun
CK68 for the 460s
CK69 for the 480s

Searching for EA/Ethan ? Anybody know how to get a hold of him ?
