Title: How does Marantz PMD420 or PMD430 sound?
Post by: zowie on October 07, 2005, 11:51:29 AM
I have an early or mid 80s Nak from the lower end of the line that I bought to copy tapes to CD.  (It sounds a hell of a lot better than the Denon I used to own when I still listened to cassettes.)

I'm wondering if a Marantz could do the job just as well.  I could set it up by my computer and put it away when I'm not using it, instead of having the Nak take up real estate in my stereo rack.  I could also use it as a back-up recorder in the field if I wanted.  Unless the sound quality is inadequate.  I only want to do this once, especially since some of my tapes from the 70s are degrading (but OTOH are not very high fidelity)

I know some of you guys have owned these in the past.  Can you give me any idea how they sound on playback?
