I'm stoked for the weekend's moe.mule! Since its a 2 nite stand at the Showbox (SeaWA), I've so I've got the opportunity to try a few things I normally wouldn't. The venue is a large/wide bar(n) that will have no FOB but a section immediately left of soundboard. Not a horrible sounding room but not the greatest either. I've have slighlty better results in the past running MBHO hypers over cards. I now have Neumann KM100 with AK40 and AK50 but not used them in this venue yet. Thanks for the help!

I would say go with the cards. I do not like the sound of the AK50, but ymmv. It seems to have a rather rolled off bottom (and top) end.
-
i'd run cards for moe the first night, hypers the second night and then hypers for mule the first night and cards the second.
you'll get different options for each band each night. that way if the sound changes from night to night, you still can compare the caps from night to night. plus, your location will be the same, you might not get the same spot the second night, so your comparison wouldn't be right on.
but its possible that this may introduce too many other variables, and i'm sure someone will probably give a much more knowledgable response later.
-
first option... cards first night for both... then listen to the pulls...
if you are getting too much crap on there, hypers the second night.
imo, if you switch out caps inbetween sets you are introducing a whole host of varibles that wouldnt otherwise exist to get an accurate impression (e.g., the stand ends up at different heights, slightly different spacing, possible connection issues, etc.)

not trying to argue here, just asking a question, i don't really stand by my original answer all that strongly anyway, but if you're trying to compare cards and hypers, wouldn't you have more variables using just cards one night and hypers the other?
original positioning would be different from night to night, along with all of the variables you mentioned as well.
i guess this is more of a question for rob? are you trying to compare caps, or are you just trying to get a good pull and you don't really care what caps you use?

If I could accomplish both, that would be great! Its a good opportunity for me to run some cap comparisons and this is a venue I tape often in so it would be good to find out which cap performs best here. With 4 sets over 2 nites, there are some options. I was leaning towards just running cards 1st nite and hypers 2nd nite for sake of simplicity. Thanks for the feedback guys, its appreciated!

My option wasn't listed, so I didn't vote. I take it back, there was an option for me! My feedback:
Night 1: cards one set, hypers the other
Listen.
Night 2: both sets with whichever caps sounds better to your ears from the previous night
-
i would run the 40 caps for both nights. I think this is one of my favorite caps.

Rob, some one told me last night that the bands were going to do set swaps over the two nights. One night, opening band does acoustic, second does electric; then the next night they swap roles. Anyone else hear this...or is this old hat and I'm just hearing this 'cause I was actually listening this time? :P

I've heard the same rumor but not seen anything official. Mule.net doesn't give too much info, as if they'll play it by ear:
MULE/MOE. ORDER
As you all know Gov't Mule and moe. are kicking off a co-headlining tour next week in Portland where they will be alternating the headlining slot. To see who goes on first and last each night check out the info pages for each show.
But moe.org confirms it. Looks like the Showbox shows only :-\
MOE./MULE SPECIAL ACOUSTIC SETS::
During their two night run at the Seattle's Showbox Theatre, the first band each night will be playing a very special acoustic set. The second band will play an electric set. As a reminder each night on the moe./Mule tour, each band will be a playing an extended set, and the bands will rotate who closes the show each night.

Welcome back to Seattle, Jon!! If you're taping Saturday, we will definitely hook up at the Shitbox.

you make an extremely valid point. i guess i was coming from the fact that halfway into a show i would have twice as many operator error issues arise.... and i can totally see myself not properly screwing on a cap or something along those lines. besides, i am also of the opinion that the 40's sound really good :D
-
yeah, i definitely get where you're coming from.
i'm a big fan of the 40's too...however, i'd still like to try out some 50's one day.
