If anyone would like to know how to modify the Edirol UA-5 for standalone use with your Jukebox 3 or any other device with S/PDIF input, check out http://ca.geocities.com/dkleined@rogers.com/audio/

Sweet! Now if someone would do the same for p & w mods...
-
does the coax AND optical spdif(s) out work at the same time?

"The modification described enables optical and coaxial S/PDIF outputs (both are on at all times – good for patchers)."
-
yeah, exactly why i asked! coolio!

You know-
a switch to go between 'stock' and 'digi-mod' would be awfully handy.
Awfully handy.

I would even say necessary for my uses as I want the ua5 to be both a live pre/AtoD for my mics as well as a basement studio goofing around device into my computer.
Anyone know how to get a switch worked in to the mix?

Doug commented on this recently on his board. I know someone posted a link to that discussion somewhere around here...

Nice! Did you hack the USB trace or remove the R8 resistor?
-
jon, you're an animal!

i just hacked the trace bc i only have a soldering iron, if i had some hot air tools, then i would have removed the resistor. i usually dont do SMD work for recreation or for work. Thru-hole is a lot easier. not to mention, these ua5 mainboards are very very very small. they werent really designed to be repaired. if you have one go bad i will bet that edirol will just replace the whole board. these days it is more cost effective to just replace the boards than to pay a tech to troubleshoot them.

also, you can really tell the difference between the ua5 and the v3 when you open them up. just the weight alone in your hands, there is a large difference.
