thinking of using mouse pads for each side of the disc. small disc for small mics, 6 inches. the thickness of a mouse pad seems to be perfect, but are they to dense?

Thats what I thought. This should work pretty good. Found a plastic wire spool at work, cut the ends off(only need one), which is 6 1/2 inches in diameter, and about 1/8 inch thick. Even has holes in the right spots. Two mouse pads and a piece of 3/8 threaded rod for mounting the mic clips. Just need to find one more unused mic clip and use the bottom half for the stand mount and that should do it. A cheap miniature version and identical to the ones seen for sale for 200+ bucks. I'll post some pics when it's done.

Anyone tried something like Dynomat material made for sound dampening in cars? I'm building another disc:
Wood core, dynomat on the sides, soft fuzzy fabric covering. The memory foam disc i made works well, it's just not as sturdy as I'd like so I'm gonna play with some different ideas.

Dynomat is super thin and may take a few layers. I'm actually matting the floorboard of my Jeep right now with it. ;D

that's the plan. 3/4" thickness in total and 17cm spread dead center. that's what i'm shooting for at least. maybe i'll pick up some brown bread if i can find some locally, but i doubt it.
