IMO, i think 480>m148>v3(w/HPF on)>recorder is/would/could be the perfect combo for them, the m148>staright v3 has a boominess to my ears, or could be my system, I'd love to clean that low rumble upo just a BIT ;D

i'd say 480>m148>ad2k would be ideal, but i believe the gain on the ad2k would not allow this, and the 148's fixed 20db of gain would alos prevent that combo, but if it could be done, i bet it would be supreme ;D

maybe toddr could mod the warm upgrade on the sbm-1 to a T mod or something ???

there really arent alot of protable ADC's that would work w/ the m148 tho :'(

why not try db pads to get between the 148 and the ad2k- the 148 is doing a lot more than just simply adding gain.

Like I said I've only ran this once & in the Bjcc B'ham. (not the best place to tape). I've got a few shows coming up, Yonder at Samford hall & a few shows at workplay both great places to tape. That will be my true test.

give it some more shows....I ran the modsbm1 behind 4022>eaa for awhile, and thought it was way too warm too.....got rid of the sbm-1, then got it back a year ago when I had to downsize due to my back. I really have changed my opinion after being forced to run 4022>148>modsbm1 for a good 30+ shows. 481 and 4022 are similar in a lot of ways imo. but I would agree, I'd rather run a 1k or 500e if that was an option for me.

Yeah, I think 148->modsbm1 is pretty warm; I also think the modsbm1 generally is warm by itself or with any transformer-based pre (like my JK Labs box).  m148->line in minime is not so warm as the foregoing.

also true. very different sound into the sbm-1 than the mme. more detail and separation with the mme, although not nearly as forgiving of iffy acoustics as the sbm-1. I'd say running the msbm1 has saved my ass a good 10 times.

Fozzy ran 480/460>MP-2>modSBM-1 for a while and I really liked the results--so much so that I run the same combo now sans the 480's.

I ran the mp2->mod sbm1 combo with my MGs and loved it...nice warm smooth sounding tapes!

ditto w/ Hos and 481s.  I don't know which I like better though, hos or 481s.

i ran it for about 3 years. got plenty of samples if you want to check it out.   i used to really like the 480/ps2/modsbm rig w/ no preamp.   sounded really smooth.

nice. think you'll like it if you give it a good sampling of shows.
