Title: Mic Preamp Gain Settings
Post by: ghibliss on October 21, 2005, 10:32:35 PM
When using a M-Audio Microtrack 24/96 with the spif input (ocaxial) from an external Mic preamplifier outputting the signal at 44.1/24 do you set the gain strictly by the meters from the outboard preamp?  I want to know if this is all that is needed to observe for the correct mic gain level or if the meter level on the Microtrack has any real significance using the spdif input.  The external mic preamp has substantially higher s/n ratio at 135 dB using 24 bit recording I am using DPA HEB 4061 microphones.

A digital signal is just passiong 1's and 0's.  It will record whatever comes out of the preamp.
