SO i have heard some use a hockey bag and some use packpacks.. any do and don'ts? If you are going to tape openly would you not want the most protection for your gear such as a Pelican Case 1510 ? let the ideas fly?

It really depends on what all you got. I like to keep everything cabled up and ready to roll for the most part. Check out the rack gear packs, the DIY target racks, Lowepro setups in the rig pictures setup.
I currently run a CS-7 portabrace bag w/ a RM-Multi.
Make sure you have plenty of room for your gear and accessories.

thanks .. this is the status of my soon to be rig
c4's ( bid still out on ebay)> UA-5 ( bid still out on ebay adn then off for the busman2+mod)> lappy. the laptop i figure will be the biggest pain in the ass to haul around and the extra bat for it!!!

check out a rakgear bag for laptops, you get a laptop pocket and shelves on the inside for the UA-5, batteries and mics in a case.

(Fanny pack if it's open-taping, which is rare)

Targus makes a lot of good backpacks for laptops. If and when you get tired of the laptop, buy a Lowepro nova 5.
