Since I've got two UA-5's sitting here, thought it would be a good idea to run some comparisons, and why not a little poll. So here goes....
Below are links for two recordings I made at home with 2 modded UA-5's.
Lineage: CD player > UA-5(XLR in) > Optical Out > JB3
MP3's:
http://jdaly.homelinux.org:2112/music/wild-nights-sample-1.mp3
http://jdaly.homelinux.org:2112/music/wild-nights-sample-2.mp3
WAV's:
http://jdaly.homelinux.org:2112/music/wild-nights-sample-1.wav
http://jdaly.homelinux.org:2112/music/wild-nights-sample-2.wav
Care to guess which recording was made with which box? Also note that by creating this comparison, I'm not trying to gauge reaction as far as which one is better than the other. Each box (imo) has it's unique characteristic. Another good test to run would be the T+ mod. But anyway, see what you think and I'll post the results after we get a bunch of votes. If you want it sooner, PM me. 8)

So this is a recording run line in, into the XLR inputs?
I'm not sure how relevant this is? ???

hmmm, good point. So by doing this, your saying I'm bypassing certain components like the phantom power? Well, I could certainly run it again with mics. Let me know if that would make more sense. Or let me know the best way (at home ) to make a direct comparison. Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah, I would think it would be a better comparison to set up your microphones in your listening area and play the same track over your speakers and record it with moicrophones using the pre-amp. I guess it would depend on your playback system, but it would be a better A/B test I think.... my $.02
