Is there possibly a show out there where a bunch of tapers ran from the same location with nearly identical rigs, just different mics? It's hard to really get an honest opnion of a mics true voice when there's so many factors in play from rig to rig or show to show even. Any suggestions would be grrrreat.

Here's one way to do it:

It's focused on a different application than most of this group, but the comparison is still interesting, and the method is probably pretty good for making a choice. I'm no golden ears, but not tin either :-) I think I was more surprised by how these mics sounded alike than their differences.

Not sure if you like PH, but when I was starting out, I reviewed several PH shows for which I had several different sources. It was easy to do w/ PH as there were plenty of sources... Most sources in this method are a few feet apart, but overall, you can tell the difference in equipment.
Also, Mark Terry and I did a AKG481/ADK A51S LE comp during a Barefoot Manner show couple years ago. First set, we ran our rigs, second set, we switched mics:

You could always seek out some of the 4 channel guys and see if they are running different mic pairs as shows.... I know for a fact that some do..
