Title: Talk to me about dither......
Post by: mfh2014 on August 08, 2003, 12:34:26 PM
Alright...I know the basics of dither, noise shaping, etc...but what do you all use for software-based dither...I know Apogee's UV22 is popular and is availble in Nuendo...I also have been using Samplitude, that uses pow-r dither...what do you use and why..

Use anything with POW-r ... particularly the noise shaping curve #3. To my ears (and many others), it's the best-sounding software dither algorithm. I didn't know anything on a PC used POW-r, actually.

The IDR dither on the Waves plugin bundle is pretty good too, and Wavelab uses UV22HR, which isn't bad either.

Alright...POW-r it is...surfing around, I found this article/review extolling POW-r over all the other schemes  http://www.mil-media.com/docs/articles/powr-par.shtml (http://www.mil-media.com/docs/articles/powr-par.shtml)...oh, and Samplitude Pro 7.02 rocks my world...I thought Nuendo was kick-ass (which it is) but I LOVE Samplitude..
