Title: Archos Gmini 402 20Gb Multimedia Player 167201 query
Post by: Wirralgirl on November 19, 2005, 03:12:11 AM
Has anyone looked into using the Archos Gmini 402 20Gb Multimedia Player 167201 for stealth audio recording ?

I'd be grateful for any views on spec and suitability - I can't find enough details on spec to decide.
I see Currys (UK) has them around £280.

I'm looking around for a replacement for my JB3, and so far the solid state recorders cost too much for flash memory.

TIA

you might try searching this forum and see if "Archos" comes up, a while back there was some very extensive posting about taping with a couple of different archos models but i am not sure which...

I've an Archos 400 for taping.. Works pretty well... The only downside to is
the cluncky multi-connector that plugs onto it for doing line-in.

My suggestion would be to replace it with the one made by Sound Professionals.

What is the difference between the 400 and the 402?

Also, can you copy files from these players to a computer as if they were simple external hard drives?  Or are they crippled by DRM restrictions?

My 400 copies straight over to the computer.  My laptop reads the 400 as an external hard drive.  Quick and simple.  As for the difference in the 400/402.   Not too much except from doing research, the 400 seems to be more stabile and tested.  I have been happy with my 1st few shows with it.
