Title: how to mount Shure bar on light stand
Post by: stvgray on November 19, 2005, 11:52:32 AM
I was using a Bogen/Manfrotto light stand with a simple 3/8-to-5/8 adapter. But after 10 or 15 uses, the adapter stripped out and screwed up the threads on the light stand.

So I bought a new light stand -- a better model anyway -- and I'm looking for a better adapter solution. I'm afraid if I get another simple threaded adapter, it will strip out again and possibly ruin this new stand.

Is there a vertical clamp-type solution -- something that will clamp to the non-threaded part of my light stand, going straight up? With a standard 5/8 mic post on the top, so it doesn't require an adapter?

I see one on micsupply.com, but it's still got an adapter on top of it. I want one where the 5/8 threading is part of the clamp unit itself.

Can somebody give me a solution -- make, model, and where to buy it?

I'm gonna try to post an image of the micsupply unit here.

IMO, either the threading was screwy from the get-go, or you're doing something wrong.  If even mildly careful, the threads should hold up longer than 10-15 uses.

Yeah, that clamp is good and cheap and does exactly what you need to do too.

Okay, I bought a Bogen quick-release clamp and a 3/8-5/8 adapter.

On that "tank of a clamp" than Bean suggested, is there a way that it swivels so it can go on top of a light stand and have the threaded part go straight up? Haven't seen one in person and can't picture how that would work.
