Title: Such a thing as a line-level mic?
Post by: bconnolly on November 20, 2005, 08:35:35 PM
I have an iAudio x5 (which has a line-in port on the bottom) and would like to use it for light audience recording.  Thing is, I don't want to have to carry around a mic pre... I just want to run a mic into the line-in and record.

Is there any way to do this or am I out of luck?

use microphones with a batterybox, or buy a microphone like the sony with internal battery.

The battery box will give it power, but won't the mic signal still be too weak to be recorded at line level?

Shure used to make a line level mic -- but I can't find it on their site.

Soundfield ST-250 outputs a low line level signal.

Just add line transformers into the chain.  I don't run a pre, and that's how I do it.  Transformers don't take up much room.

you can run mics > batbox > line in just fine and get decent levels, but you'll probably have to normalize or add gain in post.

many many people run mics > batbox > jb3 and they turn out just fine.
