how much do you have to spend? do you need something small and stealthable or will you be taping bands that allow taping?

i just bought the same recorder off ebay (currently awaiting it's shipping), and have been purplexed with the same dilema (i as well am a newbie to taping). what i've had my eye on is MM-HLSO-MICRO, which is stereo omni's that look like the size of the head of a needle. i'm looking (for the most part) to be stealthing it, which is why i'm looking for mics as small as i can get (budget allowing 100-250 or so, those are $260). one worry i'v got with those though, is that i go to alot punk shows in rather small venues (very loud!!!), and am worried about spl's (description says they max out at 130 and i like to stand in right in front of the stacks). what drew me to them in the first palce, was that they were powered by the mz-nh1 itself, so no extra boxes to carry. as well though, i'm wondering how accurate the information i got from the ad was(http://www.minidiscaccess.com/item.html?PRID=1405445) and was hoping to hear if anybody's used them before?

You'll probably be fine at 130 dB with regard to the mic overloading, however a couple of things to consider:
1) The MD mic "plug-in power" is supplying less than the 9V that a battery box would. This likely affects the mics ability to handle very loud music.
2) The very loud music and the sensitivity of the mics may send a signal to the MD mic input that is too high for it handle and you can't use mic-in and have to switch to line-in, where you don't have the plug-in power anymore.
See where it says:
Note: If your recorder does not provide a bias voltage or if you want to feed your recorders line inputs to avoid overloading your recorder's mic pre-amplifier, you can use one of our Battery Modules (check out our Battery Module Section).
Battery Modules will power the microphones with optimum power ( 9 volts D.C ), increase dynamic range and enable the mics to handle higher (SPL) sound pressure levels ( loud sounds ) without distortion.
The Sennheiser MKE-2 is supposed to work off 12-48V power supply. So an MD plug-in power is most certainyl going to be underpowering them. The 9V battery box is still underpowering them, but will be much better.

thanks jefflester, i guess i'll have to reconsider the battery box, and as well look for ones with higer voltage.
