Title: I love Audiogon...
Post by: twatts (pants are so over-rated...) on November 22, 2005, 08:37:23 PM
So, tonite I gave myself an early birthday present - a Mirage PS 12-90 subwoofer.  Used, but in immaculate conditioin, I'm listening to it thump away right now (46 Days - my TAB tape - 11-7-2005).  I'm so happy for myself, I just wanted to share...

Anyways, back to the subject:  I love Audiogon.  Going on Nick Gregory's advice, I've been doing a zip-code search on Audiogon.  I've been looking for speakers, but when a great deal on a sub came up, I jumped on it.  The damn thing was only 2 miles away, waiting for me in a playback-geek's closet...  That guy had so much crap - 3 (yes, 3) systems in his living room.  He was using Triangle speakers, and was ABing a set of Usher's against another set that I can't remember...  Tube amps sitting around, crap and cables all over the floor and hanging off other crap...  He said now that he had 2 divorces, all his money was now going towards what HE wanted...

Anyways, I recommend zip-code searches to beginners and veterans alike - great deals can be found on Audiogon.

My meagor playback system is now:

Input > Sony TA-1000ESD > [B&K ST-140 > Infinity Infinitessimal Micro II] + [Mirage PS 12-90] > Ears

Next to upgrade are the speakers, then the transport...  Oh yeah, and some more cables from Segue... Playback hobby is as bad as the Recording hobby!  UGH!!!

Terry

Edit for spelling.

Congrats!  I picked up a pair of B&W Matrix 803 S2's via a local guy on Audiogon.  Great to meet people in your area that are into gear as much as we are.  +T

Playback hobby is as bad as the Recording hobby!  UGH!!!

Maybe even worse. Congrats on the upgrade, Terry. A'gon is the shit.

On a side note... I sold a pair speakers on audiogon a couple weeks ago and the buyer already has them up for sale, but for $400 more. WTF?

this d00d had a sota apphire turntable (mark 3) with a grado platinum cartridge and audioquest pt5 tonearm. didnt want to ship it. that would cost you $2500 new. i went down and picked it up for a fraction of that...what a deal!

pics are here (http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=54779.0)

d00d has two reel decks (one two track, one four track). both look to be in excellent shape. he will let me walk out the door w/ 'em for $450. should i pick 'em up..?

what about the nak cass deck (the one that flips the tape) - $150...?

a dbx outboard encoder/decoder for $100..?

arent these things useful when transferring some of those master tapes..? i could pick this stuff up, and then we could work on how to get them to the appropriate people; i havent seen the dbx outboard gear, or clean reel machines, very often, so i figured i would post the info here. i could be johnny on the spot if these are items we might want to get our paws on...

next to the search field (at the top of the audiogon homepage), you will see the advanced lnk. click it, and the zip code field will pop up...

use the first two numbers of your zip code to turn up a wider search that is still local...

That zip code search is Pure Evil.

Which Martin Logans?  I've had my CLS for 17 years. Hard to believe it has been that long. They ruined me for cone speakers. I recently took them out of storage and set them up to better eval the soundstage of my recordings.. Still getting the room and rest of the gear ready..  Not sure if I'll keep'em, add a sub or get something else (what, I have no idea).

Doug recommended the Antique Sound Labs Huricane amps today as the least expensive reference quality amp..  I asked him about the McCormacks but he hasn't had a chance to listen to them critically  :-\
