hey guys.. i'm new to the whole taping world, although i have been collecting live music for quite some time now (so i know a little bit).
i just bought the new sony mz-m10 1 gig minidisc linear pcm recorder. looks like it is going to be really good unit.
i am looking for a preamp with good monitoring system (peal level indication), for what i want, this looks like the best deal.
anyone familiar with this preamp

i have also been doing some reading on here about the ua-5 but from what i read it does not have very good peak level monitoring system, correct?

also, any help on decent mics (around 400 dollars for the pair).
thank you in advance.

You could pick up a pair of AKG 391's or 393's for that price range. Real nice mics for the money.
