Title: Got the DAT need the rest
Post by: guitard on November 25, 2005, 04:28:04 AM
As the subject suggests - I've taken the first step by getting a brand new Sony TCD-D100.  It seemed like a good way to get started.  Now I need the rest of the stuff.

Budget:  I can go as high as $1K for the rest of the equipment.

Situation:  Almost always stealth.  I'm really a filmer by hobby - and I plan on recording the audio with the DAT while I film, because the audio on the video tapes usually sucks.  I realize, taping the audio from a spot where someone usually stealth films isn't going to result in great audio, but I'm hoping with the right equipment, I'll at least be able to nicely improve it.  There will also be situations where I won't be able to film, so I'll try to get to the optimal audo taping position.  I'll be using these to tape everything from loud headbanging jams, to jazz, to acoustic stuff - in small clubs as well as arenas.

I've read many, many threads and it seems like there are so many brands and options... and opinions vary quite a bit.

So it looks like I'll at least need mics and a battery box.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

get some active cards, akg 391 or something of that nature.  then you just need a preamp and active cables and you're set.  maybe go with active mbhos if you can afford it.  omnis will sound like poop from a balcony so forget the 4060/4061 route.
