Anyone try out or talk to Doug about the MicroTrack 2496 1/8" mic pre upgrade it seems they're offering now? From their Recording Rigs (http://www.oade.com/Tapers_Section/rig_eight.html) section, MT2496 Stealth Recording Rig (http://www.oade.com/Tapers_Section/rig_eight.html) page:

how much is doug charging extra for the mod and are they only doing them on MT's they sell?
-
Who has more info about the functionality this mod provides?

Doug only performs mods on products he sells, and this applies to any gear he offers mods for.
I was hoping Doug was going to mod the adc of the MT and not the preamp.
I'll be using mics that require P48 and an outboard pre for stealth situations, thus relying on the MT to do my analog>digital conversion.
Maybe there isn't anything he can do to improve it?
Not entirely true, he would mod an SBM1 regardless of where it was originally purchased.

Uhmmmm...the Oade Bros? If you're interested in the mode, email or call them and let us know what you find out.
And I would assume Doug will stick with his recent policy of only modding units Oade Bros sells directly.

Yes, nice, but the posted url from their site gives little info...
Sent off the mail.

I need a mod that replaces the 1/4" inputs with RCA inputs ;)

this is added to the FAQ. hopefully they will get some more mods and mod units that they don't sell.

Hello !
I feel the analog noise is too audible to do much to it, especially via the TRS jacks. I feel an analog PCB rebuild is in order, perhaps let a analog PCB grounding engineer take a crack at it (not a crack pipe as these guys seem to have done !). The 3.5MM jack sounds best, hence I did do a bit to it. Mine has a full analog path upgrade but the MOD I offer is only an input overload MOD, it drops the fixed gain by 12dB, this makes it easy to use for music recording with the supplied T-Mic or DPA 4061s. Mine has the T-MOD type upgrade.
peace...Doug
So does this mean that the only benefit of the mod is in using the 1/8" mic in? What about 1/4" line in?

"I feel the analog noise is too audible to do much to it, especially via the TRS jacks". I think Doug said it all right there

Does that mean that it would be a better idea to run my CMC-8's into the 1/8" jack instead of passing it through the SP Mini TRS dongle?

"noise is too audible, especially via the TRS jacks"
Don't understand...I thought we get more noise in a recording if we use the stock MT via 1/8 socket...thats why most people prefer using the 1/4 phono inputs...Also 1/8 use unbalance cable whereas 1/4 uses balance cables which is also a benefit. Am I mis-understanding something here? ???

Go to Radio Shack, they have TRS to RCA adapters.

So doesn't this include the 1/4" inputs?
I'm a little unclear about this mod, maybe I should just email Doug... :hmmm:

So I guess the TRS inputs are noisier than the 1/8"? Seems strange that that would be the case.

I think there is a misunderstanding here... don't understand why Doug said that. Either I misundertood something or maybe it was a mis-type. Definately messed up why we prefer 1/4 and the use of balance cables. I might email him and ask why he said it. ???

Because, due to the way the MT24/96 was designed, the 1/4" inputs are the only inputs which can be used at a line level. In most cases, if you attempt to use the 1/8" input as a "line in" you risk distorting the signal.

Yes, that is what I thought... But Doug seem to think differently saying:
"I feel the analog noise is too audible, ESPECIALLY via the TRS jacks".

The 1/8" jack on mine is MUCH noisier than the TRS jacks. I was considering selling mine and buying one from Doug if he was upgrading the pre so I'm definitely bummed. Looks like I'll have to stick with an external.
