Title: RME ADI-2 Hi-Performance 192 kHz/24 Bit 2-channel AD/DA-converter
Post by: hammerhorror on November 27, 2005, 12:22:16 AM
I am really shocked that nobody uses this A/D, D/A converter for taping. Looks awesome! I kind of want to be the guinea pig. I just stumbled upon this while browsing online. It is also easily powered in the field. Looks perfect for what we do. Can be bought new for $638.00

Thoughts?

You'd still need a preamp that would supply gain and P48.  I'd imagine that's why they aren't found in the field that often.  It's just an A/D converter...

Yes that's true, but there are a ton of great preamps that supply gain and phantom power. Such as the Sound Devices MP2, Lunatec V2, EAA PSP-2 + 3, Sonosax, Oade M148, etc...

If it's on par with the  other RME gear, then it's a GREAT ADC!

I guess it all comes down to how many boxes and batteries you want to carry around.  RME does make very nice converters.  Not top of the line, but certainly above mid-grade.  For the money and the hassle I'd almost go with a V3 for an all in one solution instead, but that's just me.

I own a ADI-2, but I have never taken it out of my studio. I was thinking of using it for a show comming up. Can someone help me figure out what kind of battery & cable I would need to power this in the feild. Most of the mobile recording I do, I do on a big scale, with basically a mobile recording studio in a truck. I want to get into more feild recording and concert bootleging. Any Help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi,

For starters, don't use the term bootleg, in any way on this forum. The word implies that we record live concerts and then turn around and sell the recordings for profit. That is NOT what this site is about. This forum is to promote the archiving of live music, and these recordings are NEVER to be sold to anyone under any circumstances.

As far as the battery power goes for the ADI-2, you can use any 12V or higher Li-Ion battery and the proper connector tip usually supplied with the battery itself.

Here is a link to a battery that will work for the ADI-2: http://www.batterygeek.net/Portable_DVD_Player_Battery_p/10-14-88_batterygeek.htm (http://www.batterygeek.net/Portable_DVD_Player_Battery_p/10-14-88_batterygeek.htm)

Also, you can check out the sub forum here called Remote Power for more info on how to power various pieces of gear in the field. http://taperssection.com/index.php?board=25.0 (http://taperssection.com/index.php?board=25.0)

Ditto beat me too it....We do this for the love of live music not profit...If bootleging is what your about then this board is not for you....If it was a slip of the tounge, a momentary lapse of reason, or lack of a better term all will be forgiven......

Yet bootlegging is talked all over this board from the kickdown section to everywhere in between?  Whether you use the term itself or not it's still the same thing.  I really don't take issue with folks using that term.  I know what I do.  And while trasnsferring Pickathon stuff I checked a couple artist websites.

It's a term.  Some people take different meaning in it.  I have less an issue with folks using that term than half the "sleath" talk that goes on here.

Off soapbox.
