Just curious why I've never seen anyone use the Neumann KM-185 for taping shows? Keep thinking how I'd like to have a hyper option, and how pricy it is to get into the modular stuff. . .

a guy here in town has a pair that he uses when he needs hypers...and they are similar in characterstic to the KM150s...very thin and bright sounding

So I guess it's just a Neumann hypers in general thing then, huh?
Hmm, back to the drawing board :) I love my 184's in a lot of situations, but there are lots of times I'd like to have hypers on me.

If I were going to pick up a set of Mics/Caps just to have hypers, I'd go 483's......

Just the SD mics. The LD neumanns have the phatty bass.

I'm thinking of checking out a pair, I like the mk41's, but the 483's can make some smokin' recordings IMO. I just want one of everything... 8) err a pair of everything...

For what it is worth, I've enjoyed a number of km185 & km150 tapes- and the kn185s are *much* smaller that the AKGs.

Is it still gear slutting if you keep most of it? I consider myself more of a gear polygamist. ;)
