Title: Dumb question about mic elements
Post by: SpareRibs on December 11, 2005, 04:51:51 PM
So I've decided to buy the SP CMC 8, also known as the AT943 for stealth purposes at the Sound Professionals site and I'm getting them in omni's.

As I am about to order them, I have an option of getting mic elements at an extra cost if I want. Can someone explain what they are? Do I need to get mic elements?  :P

mic elements/???you mean the additional caps that provide extra patterns...

Hypercardiod, omni, card...thats what that means...additional patterns, basically.

the elements are the caps that screw on to the body that provide the different pickup patterns... omni, cardioid, hypercardioid, subcardioid...

if you were getting the 853, alpha sound has caps for $28/each (although the new uline series caps are priced higher... i thing $46/each)

personally, i prefered the sound of the 853 over the 943/33, but they are smaller, although the 853s are pretty small already.

good luck

So it basically means that if my caps were already omni's and I decided to convert my mics to cards, I just buy a set of card caps right?
