I was wondering the same. I'm weighing the Duo and the UA-5. It's like these two companies got together to each build ALMOST exactly what I want.
The damn UA-5 can't do AtoD via digi-out without modding and the mod screws up the USB functionality but it can easily be made portable since it's 9v DC.
The Duo works perfectly as a stand-alone or mini-mixer for in studio stuff but they decided on 9v AC.
When are these friggen' companies gonna get it right. I'm still scratching my head and looking for my personal holy grail that I can use as an AtoD/mic preamp AND a unit for basement studio goofing around.

I had one last year...I could never power it and get solid results.
I started with a pocket gen...little 12v ac convertor
Worked well for about 5 shows then crapped out, started making wierd buzzing noise all the time.
then i tried a ac convertor from rat shack and it worked ok, but as time went on I got less and less time outta the batteries before the buzz came back. :(
I eventually decided I needed too mush shit to make it run so I sold it on ebay ;D
its a nice unit for the $...and it will do a lot!!!
I didnt use it with my current mics but one time and its full of buzzing.
I used it with my rodes and did not like the sound at all

Just get the ua-5 with all the mods, and you will be much happier!
I heard they have a quieter poqer supply for the suo over at core-sucks, but then again, the pda recorder was coming first quarter 2003 too!

I will if an easy workaround comes out that allows it to do AtoD as a standalone without negating the USB connectivity. I'm tempted to get it and try adding a switch to the mod myself. I just don't know if I can trust myself with a soldering iron again.
I had a lot of happy customers back in the playstation modding days. :o

I've only run it a couple of times...in some REAL shitty spots >:(
It sounds a lot smoother than the dmic, but i'm still not convinced.
I'm hurting for some new mics :yikes:

I've only ran it once in a small bar.... the tapes came out well. Seems I'm in a show slump right now. Nothing close that workable. But next month :smoking2:

Looks interesting. I'll have to research it a little more when I get back into the "office". I don't know what computer I'll be using in the pseudo studio yet but firewire could be introduced fairly easily.

And I'm not seeing a manual yet on the M-Audio site nor a good specs breakdown. It is listed as available at Cascade Media (http://www.cascademedia.net/cgi-bin/cmedia/firewire_410.html). I'm wondering if anyone out there has kicked it around yet???
