i have been getting skips and pops on my recordings with my microtrack recording via spdif off a ua-5(w-mod). i have been using the ua-5 for 2 years with no problems. i just upgraded to firmware v1.2.0 (Beta), but havent used it to record yet. i was using v1.1.5 when i did my recordings.
was this an issue that was fixed in the firmware, but not addressed by m-audio? im not really sure what to do. i bought it at guitar center on 10/29, but havent really had time to test it as much as i should have. my battery also seems to not last as long as other peoples have. i get under 1.5-2 hours in 24/44.1 recording onto a microdrive. could i have a defective unit? would guitar center let me do an exchange after waiting this long?

I would venture a guess that the pops/skips are issues with the card you are using. you mention battery life with a microdrive, so I'm assuming that that is what you were using when you got the pops/skips. microdrives are not as reliable as CF cards. and with CF cards, you'll want something greater than 40x. several people have reported problems with slower CF cards.
personally, I have made many successful 24 bit recordings via the S/PDIF input, with both v1.1.5 and v1.2.0 firmwares. so I don't think your problem is a firmware issue.

what kind of microdrive is it? i'm using a hitachi 6giger and haven't had a problem.

check the MT page for a list of compatible cards.

im using one of the 4GB apple hitachi microdrives that were on ebay. thats shouldnt cause problems, should it?

I wouldn't think so, could it be the cable?

i used the same microdrive w no problems @ 24bit
are you sure you correctly selected 16/24bit on the MT menu screen?
that shouldnt cause your prob but you never know
i would still get a CF card tho instead

i selected 24 bit. i am sure that the cable is good. i was plugged into power when it happened. could it be getting interference from the usb cable?

I've had problem skipping with the Hitachi 6GB card off eBay using analog input so I suspect it's a problem with the microdrive. I'll be switching to a CF card.
