Title: Problem with my JB3 shutting down ...
Post by: corvonero on December 26, 2005, 09:43:30 AM
I searched the JB3 faq but could find an answer to my problem, hope someone out there can help me.
I taped a few shows with my JB3 (let's say 20+) and on some occasions i had a problem with my JB3 shutting down in the midst of the recording.
Let me say that i had my key-lock on to prevent shutting down problems, and also i'm using two batteries so power shortage is not the problem.
I usually keep my JB3 in a case logic bag with just the mic cable coming out under my t-shirt (have to stealth tape here in Italy) and i must say the bag is really full and tight with my JB3 and my preamp, so the best explanation i could come up with is that the JB3's internal heat has little or no way of attenuate and the JB3 shuts down for heat prevention.
Another thing i tought to be possible was that the preamp batteries were dead and the JB3 was shutting down after not receiving signal for a few minutes (this happened to me during a Mule show) but in subsequent times i had the chance to verify the preamp was not the problem.
Is this possible? Has anybody of you guys ever come up with such a problem?
I'm using the latest firmware release (can't remember the number) and i'm using the default settings that firmware has.

Thanks in advance for your help, and sorry for my bad english

JB3's have a problem with heat.  They shut down easily.  Try keeping it away from the preamp, and keep the battery covers off the JB3.  That will help a little.

indeed. if the jb3 is in a bag up against a pre (in my case an mp2) it may overheat, especially if the bag is closed

fwiw, I've worked with two jb3's and have had no problem with heat.  And this is tested in an Arizona (Phoenix) summer.  Not all jb3's have the same heat properties I would assume.
