Title: IPod Questions

I got a new ipod for christmas and can't figure out how to get tv shows and video on it.  I tried to encode one episode of south park but it didn't work.  The file i have is an .avi file and i read on the apple page that i need to convert to a quicktime format.  so i told quick time to encode it to the ipod format and put it in itues.  it said it was playing but i didn't get any video.
