I need a bag for this gear. I tried setting it up in a bag that I already own and it just isn't working out. I read through the Archive thread concerning gear bags and after looking at the options, I really like the way the Portabrace bags are built (judging from testimonials I read and looking at pictures).
The company makes different bags for different purposes (Mixers, Recorders, Mics, Camcorders) and they even have models for specific audio recorders that many of us use. Sadly, I don't use a 722 or a PMD-650 or any of the other top of the line units. I just need a bag that will make the following components accessible: a UA-5, a Microtrack, 2 AKG C1000S mics, 2 AT8415 shockmounts, AKG stereo bar, a pair of 15' XLR cables, some extra bats, and the various other stuff one needs (small flashlight, notepad, pens, towel, extra CF cards).
Does anyone run a similar rig? Have any recommendations concerning Portabrace bags? Or any recommendations for bags in general? My rig isn't all that big and the components aren't going to change for a pretty long time so I'm not opposed to investing 100-150 in a bag (ok... mics might change, but that doesn't affect much).

Personally, I'd go with a LowePro Nova 5 and use the $150 you'd save towards upgrades you'll inevitably want.

Thanks for the recommendation. There are so many choices out there for bags, I'm just trying to get a feel for what people normally run with a fairly compact setup. I'll look into that bag for sure. +T.

That's the bag I used with a UA5. Should hold everything fine with foam dividers and is weather resistant. +T back at you.

at this point i toss everything into a standard backpack. works just fine and costs 19.99 :)

i used a backpack and it worked fine for yrs
then i got a ua5 so i got a nova 5 and it has worked fine too
so although i never used a porta i can't see spending the extra money for it when the nova works fine
