I saw a soundguy with a sweet 'mini-stand' the other day .. it was about 1.5-2' tall, had a round weighted base, and just a small vertical thing. looked like just a simple thing to put a mic t-mount on top of for situations when you have an area to rest something on (non-floor) like a shelf, table top, or the like. I might want to pick up one since I tape a lot of small coffee shop shows and bringing the 13' tripod is rediculous ... the shortest it can run is 6' and when everyone's sitting, it can be a little crazy..
suggestions on what that small thing is called / where to get one / what size it usually has on top? ... i guess I can look into using one for those photo tripods and just run it at the most collapsed length. that would be wide enough and have the height I was looking for.
but the question is: what is the size / dimention of that standard photo tripod top thread? .. my mic mount has the converting 3/8 > 5/8 piece to use my t-mount. but I can't recall how big that is / how big the 3/8 is.
thanks for any advice!

I use something like that for stage taping. I think it's officially a kick drum mic stand. I just went to guitar center and browsed their collection of stands until I saw what I wanted.
Here's one, but not the one I have:

I use a small portable camera tripod for those occasions as well. Both good choices

I have something similar though I haven't used it yet. It's a small yellow tripod with legs that flip out from the inside (sort of like a telescoping action with springs to flip them horizontally). It's fairly compact.

this looks great for table tops, althought i prefer a different one.

this is better for table-tops only, without a need for clamping.
