Title: MP-2 vs MixPre
Post by: beanstalk on January 06, 2006, 03:50:54 PM
Any major differences between these 2 amps? Asking because just got MBHO's and need some info because I haven't seen 2 many people with the MixPre's..

Gain: MP-2 Automatic 16db gain using xlr outs, 6db with 1/8 out, Mixpre no automatic gain
Lights: MP-2 you can shut them off, Mixpre you can't
Mid-Side: MP-2 On the fly M/S decoding, mixpre doesn't

sound is basically the same.  I use a Shure FP-24, which is a rebranded mixpre and sounded wonderful with my MBHO's

I've nothing to add to this thread (Sanjay explained it perfectly) except my usual comment that MBHOs and the MP2/MixPre/FP24 were made to go together.

Absolute best pre option for anybody running MBHOs...

I would also recomend the mp-2> mbho's.When I owned mbho's the mp-2 was the BEST pre-amp for those mics. The mp-2 really warmed those puppies up.I tried a few other pre-amps but non came close to the mp-2 with the mbho's.The V3 was WAY to transparent for these mics.I didnt like it at all.I always thought a m148 would sound good with the mbho's but I  never owned a m148 untill after I sold my mbho's.
