Subject: V3 will run from 6 > 12v, right?

From: Nick Georges
I'm just toying w/the idea of going w/ 9.6v NiMH packs (ala UA-5) in
place of 3lbs of lead. wanted to make sure that I remember the
voltage requirements correctly.
i'm thinking...that will be an ideal power supply as my V3 is
calibrated to shut off when the voltage drops to 5v. the 9.6v NiMH
packs will never run that low, so i'm thinking that you'll get
better efficency from a higher voltage power solution.
Not to mention the tiny power cells and feather weight load when
comparred to lead.
I'm going to be reseaching the best/cheapest high capasity RC packs I
can find and will gladly make anyone a battery/charger combo if they
want to go for it.
I'm looking at building 6amp packs.

If it works that would be cool as hell, those rc batteries so small, would lighten shit up aload.

now if only that damn apogee was a little more forgiving of voltage irregularities :angry2:

I've thought about this before. Only two real issues, both minor:
[1] over-draining the batteries - not even sure if that's an issue with the RC packs
[2] low battery indicator won't trigger til the pack is way low (see [1])
I just don't find my 6V, 7AH to be all that big or heavy - not to mention it's paid for and built - so I never pursued this avenue. Great idea, though.
Nick - if you do this, let us know how it works out!

I run my mini-me off of a 6v 4000mah nimh battery all the time...about 2x2x2 in size, a little cube if you will!
