i have recently bought a second hand AKG C34 L-MS but i am having difficulty in trying to extract MS from it, i only have the microphone and a 5 pin connector to 2 xlr outputs, when i set the mic capsules for MS and listen to the output it just sounds mono, do i ned to purchase a external controller for adjusting the polar patterns and to decode the MS???

yes you do need to have the external controller box. The c34 is a stereo mic and patterns are changed via the box. The cable you have can only be used with the c33 which is an XY stereo cardioid mic only.

Mr. Bradley may be able to help you with the controller.
I have a 426b , same principle. useless without the box.
