Title: Digital coax > MT question
Post by: bconnolly on January 23, 2006, 05:45:30 PM
I was about to buy a SPDIF cable at Best Buy the other day but then I remembered how snug the USB and SPDIF inputs are on the MT.  I wanted to get a really nice cable but all of the plugs looked really fat and I feared they might preclude me from using USB battery power at the same time.

Anyone have any ideas on measurements or "approved cables" that have been known to work?

I think USB plugs vary slightly in width from manufacturer to manufacturer so it partially depends on what you're plugging into the USB port. The only way you're going to be absolutely safe is to plug in the USB cable you'll be using and measure from the widest edge of the plug to the center of the S/PDIF input and find a cable with a plug that has a radius no larger than that. (Or, better, take the MT in to the store with you along with the USB cable and test the S/PDIF plug there.)

Also, the opening of the spdif/RCA jack on the digital in of the MT is often a limiting factor.

I can build digi cables that fit the MT if you're interested, either straight RCA or right-angle.

Todd's spdif and mini-usb works great on my MT 2496 simultaneously!
