Hi, this is a question for a users of R1...I have a lot of doubts, any resolved by the manual and others none. I have the chance to record a show with dpa 4061 terminated in 1/8 and i don't if go to line in directly or try to connect to spsb-1.
In other wise i have AKG 1000S (but no phantom power), this is another option, but without phantom power i think that dpa's is preferible no?
The band play mestizo music (reggae, funk, rumba, flamenco...) and are integrated by:
Voice & Guitar
Voice & Kazoo
Percusion
Bass
And play in open venue
summarizing
- Option A dpa 4061 > edirol R1 ( and play with gain levels)
- Option B dpa 4061 > SPSB-1 (with bass rollof) > edirol R1
- Option C AKG1000 > edirol R1
- Option C AKG1000 > SPSB-1 (with bass rollof) > edirol R1
All advice are welcome

I'd go with options B or C. I don't think you can run the c1000s with the battery module, but you can run them with just a 9v internal battery. If you can go line in on either, do so.

Tough call....I say DPAs, depends on the crowd and how close you can get to the stage. I really don't like the C1000s myself and I think suffer when far away from the source, then again...so do the DPA. If you can run onstage both would be ideal. Try to make a Jecklin disc with a block of 1 inch thick foam and run the DPAs Dead center.
Good luck with that! SOunds like alot of fun.....did you ever get Ojos De Brujos?

Double check the manual, but I believe Edirol recommends you run a preamp when using external condensors.

Yup, bingo. I run an mp-2 in front of mine and it is gold!

Ok, but for now i don't have a preamp, i will elect the option B...only i have to decide if go to onstage or in front of stage (closed as possible) , basically because i don't know if the band agree with an onstage recording, maybe too invasive...shaggy your advice sound good, i'll try to make.
Searching for onstage recording i can learn that i have to stay far from drums, but best an AB config with those dpa's or din or other with cards...i know that the best is experiment myself, but i would like to hear some experiences voices.

well, finally go with option B but without bass rollof, and with homemade "j-disc" (not exactly a j-disc, my first attempt ;))

I did put the tripod in front of stage at 1.5 meters, the problem was the sound of stacks, too crapy with the voices and in general...i have the possibility of recording the same band in a professional venue, maybe I will try the akg 1000
