Post by: Pokey1 on January 28, 2006, 09:28:53 PM
Ay dudes & dudettes Just wondering if anyone has BOUGHT AND USED any of mic's from GIANT SQUID AUDIO LAB? Prices are sweet also Which are better for recording live and loud amplified music at close range 20ft away. Omni or Direct mic's or dpes it matter when your that close. Thanks

I have the Cardioid mics and they're pretty decent, perfect for a beginner.

Ay. Rick  What type of recording do you use the mic's for. Please tell me live music. I should also order the mic's with the low noise filter. Correct? Thanks

If you want to go though cardioids and you want to go cheaper, go Soundprofessionals instead of Giant Squid.

The freq response. of the GSA (giant squid cardioids) goes from 100Hz to 12.000 Hz. Quite poor for mi personal opinion...

I really like the look of the omnis on the microphonemadness...
They look like a good entry level stealth omnis....
Their size is as small as the OKMs... that said... its rumored
the OKMs are actually sennheiser capsules.

I did some stealth recordings with the MicrophoneMadness MM-COMBO-2 Combination Madness Pak (Module & Mics 20-20,000 Hz., mini-cardioid (uni-directional) stereo microphones (MM-MCSM-4) and a elite battery filter module (MM-EBM-1) with 7 position bass roll-off) which I bought last year.

Last week I did a recording about 60 metres away from stage, bass roll off at 96Hz and the mics where placed at my shoulders and the result was really good (rated as a 5 star recording by others).  ;D
I can really recommend this package deal, especially for beginners.
