what is the difference between the flac qualities 1-9? i think its a lossless format so there should be only one option!?
-
CPU time - Some folks would be up all night trying for level 9!!!
-
The time of encoding, differences between 5 to 9 are ridiculous in the final size
-
so what option is the best to choose?
-
Depends on your CPU...If you have a gig of RAM and fast processor - you can go to level 6 - no problem...
And as the someone else pointed out the returns arent as great in the upper levels - its not a linear thing...you might only pick up a few extra MBs in the 6-9 range...
If you have a older slow pc - you may not want to wait...
but to answer your question - no difference in quality...
-
alright, thank you!

damn, my flac frontend only goes from 1-8, never knew they went to 9
-
Mine goes to 11! :D

i have got the flac plugin for nero burning rom, it goes only to 8, too.

I use 6. The size difference between 6 and 8 is tiny. The difference between 4 and 6 is big enough that an extra minute or two of encoding is worth it.

yeah... don't forget to check your cucumber at airport security... ;D
