Title: archive help needed
Post by: Krispy D on January 29, 2006, 02:04:38 PM
I'm trying to upload a recent show and I'm getting a MD5 checksum failure.  I've done this plenty before but never failed the check.  how do I fix this?  in all honesty I don't even really know what a MD5 is I just make one cause they ask for it and have never had trouble till now.  anyone wanna hold a newbs hand?  I'm running a mac by the way and use xACT to create flac fingerprint and MD5.

Does the MD5 check out using xACT? Open the MD5 with text edit and if there is any text above the filenames and MD5 info try to erase that. Then erase the md5 you uploaded and upload the new one. I used to have the md5 issues when uploading there too. Pain in the ass. I forget how I managed to get it right everytime.

hmm...

there's no text above the MD5 filenames but it doesn't pass if I use xACT to check.  this is what it looks like:

92af98982da435274ff11976da94a138  [shntool]  pgrass2005-11-10.t01.flac

7e34bc8703a6ae34a580bfdeeadc6029  [shntool]  pgrass2005-11-10.t08.flac

and that seems pretty right to me.

this is what xACT spits out at me if I try to verify the MD5:

md5sum: [shntool]  pgrass2005-11-10.t01.flac: No such file or directory
[shntool]  pgrass2005-11-10.t01.flac: FAILED open or read

[shntool]  pgrass2005-11-10.t08.flac: FAILED open or read
md5sum: WARNING: 8 of 8 listed files could not be read

where do I go from here?  do I create a new MD5 and check that one or start over with the edited wav files and encode to flac create a new fingerprint and MD5?

I can say this much. I use "shorten" for OSX to make my MD5's. I love xACT and can't quite recal why I still use shorten but it is something about the "shntool" md5 that doesn't jive. Grab shorten, make a new md5 and replace the other one. Maybe that will do the trick.

Cleantone had it right - you were making a shntool md5, which is an md5 for the wav data, not for the flac files themselves. To make a regular md5 with xACT, click "traditional" instead of "shntool" on the popup box after you hit "Checksum" on the checksum tab.
