I thing this is an important enough issue for it's own thread. I am almost ready to give up on this thing after my Tea Leaf Green recording was trashed last Thursday.

Here's the deal. The connection doesn't have enough clearance for normal cables to fit. I bought a Hosa cable which fits, but it isn't secure enough. If it get's josteled at all it records diginoise type static.
What are people using to secure their cable and unit? I wish M-Audio or someone would design a secure adaptor so we could use a normal cable rather than the Hosa.
-
I share your frustration. I'm forced to use a cheap junk cable from Radio Shack. It's so old that I don't know the catalog number. Obvious clearance issues should've been caught before release. Then again, a lot of issues were not caught...oh, don't mind me. ;D

my new kindkables digi cable is designed for use with the mt24/96.
i can make one for you no problem.
thanks

I soldered myself a custom cable for this. I used a Belden 9244 coaxial cable and Monacor T-700BG RCA plugs. Works great!
-
I actually got my Hosa cable from you. The cable is great. The problem is with the unit.

I use a hosa or a 7pin cable I got from CMedia (?), both housings fit and I never had a problem with the jack itself ...
-
I use my new kindkables aes > coax cable and it has plenty of room to plug in the miniusb for external power without shaving any of the cables to make them fit.

made my own cable with a right angle neutrik end, works like a champ and fits nice a tight, no way is that cable coming out or getting jostled. total cost: $6

I just had the brainstorm of bending the cable and taping everything up:

It looks like you're trying to suffocate the MT. :(
-
If you are up for making your own cables, I'd suggest the switchcraft right-angle RCA connectors. that's what I use, and it fits perfectly, nice and tight, definitely no room for it to be jostled at all.
actually, I got lucky in that respect, because a few years ago, I decided to make my own digi-coax cables, with right-angle connectors on both sides. I had used the switchcraft connectors, and now I'm glad that I did.
-
actually, mine might be switchcraft now that i think of it too, i can't remember, will have to look when i get home. it was quite easy to make, easier than xlr cables. just two solder points on each end.
-
Yep, the MT design is a bit of a pain since it doesn't allow for a lot of cables to fit. I've been making cables with the switchcraft right-angle RCA or with Neutrik straight RCA connectors and both fit easily into the Microtrack. Nice and snug connection, no problems with jostling and dropouts.

Sorta like using the HPF >:D Sorry Jeff couldn't resist ...
-
Hey Mark. You were even there when I first got turned onto HPF. It was at Dougaroo and it was a Schoeps guy from NC who was using it.

I am just playing Jeff, just playin' ... Oh an d I think that was Robbie Dunn at Dougaroo, could be wrong though ...

Jeff-
If you use a cable with a decent end you should be ok.
Got a right angle from LeeGeddy that fits in there fine. (not sure of the maker of the end, can give a look tonight)
And my homemade digi cable using belden 1506a and Canare F10 ends fits fine also.
Good luck!

I got my cable from core sounds, it fits perfect.

Robbie was patched out of the SBD. It was a guy perhaps 6' tall and around 30 years old.
Also, I have done further testing and the major problem was from the Hosa connector into the V3!!! I solved the problem by using a right angle splitter. No static at all and I tested it by tugging on all of the connections.

I was at Dougaroo 1 & 2..... but ran off the soundboard each time...... so I wasn't the Schoeps guy. Possibly Jimbo Pollock, but not me. Although I am now running some Schoeps I have on loan..... MK4 > KC5 > CMC6 > V2 > PMD671.... pretty sweet.

Don't tug too hard! (http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=53207.msg693338#msg693338)

Yes, that was the start of my many headaches since my MT2496 purchase. I feel confident all the bugs are worked out now.
Here is my souvenier from my V3 incident that Brian mentioned:
