just threw down a new fresh install of xp pro (twice) and im getting random restarts
anyone have any idea's at all?

sounds like the symptoms of a virus that was circulating a year or two ago. I totally forget which one though.

If you totally formatted your drive, then a virus is pretty unliekly, if not it could be the problem. If you are good on updated drivers and such, you have a hardware probelm. Most likely memory, processor or motherboard. If you can swap out the ram chips one at a time. Reseat the CPU and all cards in the system, make sure all the fans are working. You might also try a different video card if you have one. Finally some PC makers, Dell in particular, have a system test CD you can download and boot from, then test the system. That might also find your probelm.

I have had this problem several times before and it almost always was because of bad memory or memory gonig bad. Not saying that's your problem but it seems to be it for a good number of people. I've had it with XP Pro / Sp1 and SP2 as well as XP 64bit

Heat could also be a factor, check your internal fans make sure they are spinning right, especially the CPU fan. Try pointing a box or oscillation fan at your PC and see if it lasts longer. Could also be signs of a dying power supply
