Title: HDCD/2496???

Does a DAC that boasts HDCD mean the same thing as saying it is a 24/96 DAC? :-[

I dont think so but I could be wrong.. here's what I found quickly concerning "HDCD"..

HDCD-encoded CDs sound better because they are encoded with 20 bits of real musical information, as compared with 16 bits for all other CDs. HDCD overcomes the limitation of the 16-bit CD format by using a sophisticated system to encode the additional 4 bits onto the CD while remaining completely compatible with the existing CD format. HDCD provides more dynamic range, a more-focused 3-D soundstage, and extremely natural vocal and musical timbre. With HDCD, you get the body, depth, and emotion of the original performance—not a flat digital imitation.

no. the "HDCD" logo means the DAC has the proper hardware to process an "HDCD" encoded signal.

Yikes, looks like I bought another DAC that won't do 24/96 >:(. I had my doubts. Should have asked here first. Well, they won't get wasted. They do work great on my 1000's of cd's and dats. Thanks for info. Back to the hunt for a 24/96 DAC.

bel canto dac 2.0

I know, another one just dissappeared on audiogon. Along with a m902. Seems like they don't even last a day over there.

The DAC 1.1 or even 1.0 support 24/96.  Love my 1.1!  At the moment, I can't envision spending the cash on the 2.0 just to get 192k upsampling.
