Post by: idea360 on February 14, 2006, 07:52:52 PM
Hey, what's up all ... I tried to search for this question but to no avail ...  ???

Anyway, just wanted to know what type of cable I need to hook up to a soundboard ... I have a M-Box ... so it is going into that.

Thanks for the heads up. Peace.

There are many diffent types of mixing consoles the standard outputs are XLR male this is a balanced output most likly small venues will be using cheaper consoles that have 1/2 inch output connectors. Giving you two main choices XLR and 1/2 inch there is also 1/2 ring tip sleeve balanced. I would have a set of three types Female XLR to what ever connector you need for you Mbox and 1/2 inch Male to what ever you need to connect to your Mbox. Also I would have a simple Y cable so you can Y your inputs on your Mbox, as most sound board mixes from what is called an Auxillary are MONO. If your lucky enough to get left and right then your set but most small consoles do not have enough outputs to give you that choice. There is one more connector its called Tiny Telephone this used on Midas Consoles like the XL3 and XL4 but i doubt you will ever see that connector.

Do you mean 1/4"?

I've never seen a 1/2" cable...

Most boards have RCA "tape output" or "2 track return"
Some will have 1/4" (generally your low end and/or PA amp - mixer or a FOH assigned return of the mix)
some will have XLR (some large/highend boards or a FOH assigned return)

The Midas Verona I am familiar with had XLR and RCA outputs

Most real consoles have a matrix that is XLR Male out and can be routed from any output on the console including left right and center and any aux.
