Well compadres my last days my be upon us. I've found I have a terminal condition....upgraditis. Maybe you read the the thread about the maggies, but if not all I have to say is I gotta me some of that. The wife and I are probably going to get a healthy refund this year and I'm asking if I can finish the media room. This might kill me! We are supposed to use the money to purchase carpet for our home (only 4 yrs old), but after spending an afternoon cleaning it, I must say it looks fine. We still plan to pay for our summer vacation and a get a new dishwasher, but I'm thinking of the following (since I feel better about my job security):
Anthem AVM-30 or Emotiva DSP-1
BAT VK-20 (I think the VK-31 is stretching it)
DIYcable class D monos (I plan to build)
I might then use my savings to purchase all new speakers (VSA or possibly Salk)
Credit card has been paid and IRA maxed for the year. I may give up a new boat for this, but I'm not sure I can sell my current in these tough economic times anyway. I never thought I'd possibly join the tube crowd, but listening to them last weekend.... :o
If you don't hear from me..... you know I'm at the bottom of the Detroit River with some Hoffa style boots. If it goes well you may be seeing some additions to the playback gear thread.

::)
I keep waxing the same rust spot on the old volvo and telling myself "it looks fine" while I shop for new speaker cables.

::) ;D
That's hilarious. The hypex stuff should sound great. I may build one myself if I can talk myself into the reality of interconnects again.
I drool every time I see a salk speaker. The finish is superior to anything I have seen. HT1's or 3's Scott?

Would like the 3's, but need to hear them. Jim Salk lives only 20min away.

Thats why I only purchase used, 3+ years old.
Wife came home in a very bad mood, wasn't a good time. May have to wait until after this huge sale she is running is over. Anyone in MI, Centex Homes is having a huge 12hr sale this Sat. $25k+ off depending on model!
Sorry for the plug!

skip the anthem and get the arcam av8 :)
(or the 9 if you want hdmi switching, but the 8 is cheaper)

Does not have the features I'm looking for, trust me I've looked at it. I'm not running any video through it, but when HDMI 1.3 is needed for HD DVD I'd rather have an Anthem with upgrade offered. Arcam and others are not as good in this regard.

He hasn't even had it turned on for months, because his wifes new office is in the house. So,.. poor Tom never gets to listen except in his car.
More thoughts and prayers needed.
A true friend would open his home to a buddy in need. Don't you have a spare a room in your house where he could install his system and then bring beers for his listening sessions? I'm a little surprised that you haven't offered help and just a little disappointed.

he could even have his guitar amp in the living room.
;D
Don't fly too close to the sun.

not hiking the mcintosh and b&ws all the way to n'yawk.

I noticed the SALK's arent very sensitive(85db) so you need some power.
They have some really nice looking cabnits on them though.
-
...waiting patiently for Scott to have a listening party for all of us Team Michigan folk this summer. ;D

Well it didn't go as bad as I thought (I'm not in traction at least). I don't get it all, but in the coming months I may be adding some equipment and the wife gets new Natuzzi furn. Don't you just love the compromises we must make being married ;D
