Just wondering how you guys think an Edirol R-1 would hold up for Coachella. For the people that don't know it's the festival we got in cali here and it's hot as hell usually. Doesn't seem like it will be this year at least.
I'm running the MicroTrack right now and really don't think it'll hold up. Mostly because it has no batteries and it would be too much to grab extra gear just to power it the whole day.
Gear size is a HUGE issue because getting stuff in isn't the easiest for coachella. Basically I need the R1 for the AA batteries and I love CF based gear, so I can just bust out some CF cards and AA batteries to get through the day. Just wondering what experiences you guys have had with this thing for festivals. Battery life times would be awesome as well.

6-8 hours record time on liths. it's bigger than the MT but i've crotched mine and havent had any issues getting it in. why not just pick up at R-9 when they come out though? cheaper and smaller than the R1 with the same ADC.

Man. I might just put myself on a pre-order list, i'm just not expecting to get it by the end of April. Hopefully they're on time with this.
BTW your discs are at my work, they'll go out tomorrow at lunch. :)

Just read it takes SD cards and not CF. Damnn. That could be a bitch to get enough to go for 9 or 11 hours. Oh man. HAHA. $$ The low cut filter looks AWESOME for dpa mics though. I'd love to hear how that sounds.

Dude. Aren't you awesome. If the R09 gets out on time, I could be set! +T Dell always comes through with these things.

don't get too excited, that's only 2:12 of record time at 24/44.1

I dont mean to hijack the thread, but how tough is security? I will be heading out for it this year, and it would be nice to know what I am up against.

pretty invasive patdown, with metal detectors. BUT, that said, it's nothing a ninja fears! :-)
i made it through last year with schoeps mk4v > vms02ib > modSBM > d8, numerous tapes and battery changes. i made it in, but only barely.

fuzn, I think you'd be happy with the R1, but you'd have to get another bb to power your mics, if the only one you have now is the SP dongle that fits on the MT. I like the R1 - I'm awaiting the R09 though.

awwww man, i did not need to hear that. im a nervous wreck when it comes to shit like that. ack.
Anyways, I am getting the MT and buying one of these: http://gogreen.ie/batterystick/batterystick.htm
In the power section of the MT info on here, someone said they got one and it powered the MT for 10 hours!

I wouldn't fear the heat too much. SleepyPedro had his R-1 at ACL this year. It hit 108 on Sunday.
