I am planning on borrowing a microtrack for a stealth try. will just be using my old little oade omni's made with panasonic capsules. they terminate in an 1/8" plug and draw power from the unit. I am curious what settings the MT should be on. also what inputs on the MT should I be using for the best results? I know I have read a bunch of stuff about using different jacks and what not, just curious what peoples opinions are?
Thanks!
Geoff

would it be to get a 1/8inch > rca thing and then 2 1/4 inch guys to run into the mt, then settings would be line in, wav, 44.1, 16 bit

I will be running at 24bit, just curious about the inputs. are you telling me the 1/4 jacks are what I want to use?

Unless your running a coax into it, the 1/4 jacks are all ye gotz!

I've ran that setup and it's not going to work if your doing any kind of loud music recording regardless of 1/8 or 1/4 input. The 1/8" input seems to overload and 1/4" underpowers the omni's (at least this is my conclusion). Maybe you can run 1/4" input if you can use something else to power the mics.
What you need to do is run down to your local ratshack and purchase a $6.99 1/8" headphone volume adapter. Right off the bat that seems to auttenuate the sound about 8-10 db which may be enough otherwise you have a volume knob to lower the volume even more.
24b is the way to go, if you have the storage space. Good Luck!

If you are using the MT ADC you will get barely over 100 dBSNR (108?), see http://www.sonicstudios.com/mt2496rv.htm#tips (http://www.sonicstudios.com/mt2496rv.htm#tips) and below for SNR plots.
I surely want to capture that extra bit but am finding this 2GB issue very unhandy n this situation. I don't want cuts in my shows.

it will be a symphony performance, wondering if I should just run a dat and screw the microtrack?
although, I'd really like to get this one in 24bit

Run both if you can (backups never hurt) and tell us what you think. Now that I have had the MT for a while, I find myself grabbing the M1 more often, fwiw...

Your prolly okay at a symphony, but if it's critical, run the dat until you get the MT figured out.

When my DPAs were in the shop a couple months back, I ran some Oade micros into the 1/8" input of the MT and the recording came out great! I was *really* impressed with the sound of those less-than-$100 mics. The concert was Allison Krauss, so it wasn't extremely loud (as is the case with a symphony recording). I think I used the mic sensitivity switch at low.
Moral of the story is screw the DAT, use the MT and get it at 24/48! ;D
