#3692, "RE: Oktava MC012 and MC012a"
In response to Reply # 2
Studio Projects are supposed to release hyper-cardioid capsules for the C-4's in the next 60 days. I'd suggest looking into them. I was very impressed with them, especially for the amount of money they cost. With the release of the hyper-cardioid caps, I beleive they will be unbeatable in that price range. I figure the C-4's are going to become the low budget microphones for tapers that the Oktava's once were.
BTW, I've owned both and I prefered the C-4's.
Could it be true this time? I saw this on the Oades Bro's forum and was wondering if I should hang onto my c4's after all.
Peace

That's me, I got that on the Team Studio Projects thread.

Hi David,
The hypercardioid capsule is now in the works. We will be issuing a press

I wonder how much they'll cost?

I wonder how much they'll cost?
hopefully under $150 for the set, that would be sweet :)

i would think no more than $125. considering a set with card, omni, and bodies can be had for less than $300 new.
-
so will you ever use the reg cards again or always use the hypers? i havent even used my omnis yet :-\
-
I want the hypers for small clubs/bars etc and if ya havent't gone omni's yet your missin' out. Build a Jdisk and go to a outdoor show DFC FOB and check them out. The bass comes out boomy at times but the sound stage and all comes out warm. My best yet was Keller and Keels at HSMF on a windy day left of the SDB and a couple feet behind.

I really hope this is going to happen. Hypers would be sweet.

I'd recommend trying them out on an artist that isn't using a PA, and isn't playing super loud. I've used them acoustic jazz trios and they kick ass. Especially if you can get them on stage and split them.

Hi everyone,
Apparently, we did go "underground" recently...
I just got off the phone with a dealer in Atlanta who was asking if "y'all had gotten yer 1800 number fixed yet".
It seems to work now, but it was offline last week for some duration - I have no idea how long.
As for the email end of things, I don't think there has been any interruption. Justin and Alan are over in the UK right now doing some trade shows, so if anybody has emailed them, there might be a delay as they are just plain busy. Also, Reid Mason (Marketing Dir.) and I were out for a couple of days last week, visiting the Sweetwater crew in Ft. Wayne Indiana. As an aside: I was totally impressed by that whole organization. Wow.
Anyhow, other than that we are here and it's business as usual.
David Randle was kind enough to pass along the rumour that we were MIA.
As to the microphone stuff: The hypercardioid capsules are a reality - this is definitely not a rumour. DHL should be bringing me the first production prototypes this morning - along with some other goodies we are getting set to release.
I don't have any pricing for you yet, but that information should not be too far off. I just need to sit down with Alan Hyatt and hammer things out. Less than $150.00 without a doubt.
I also want to say thank you for using our mics. It's cool to know that they're out there being used for all manner of recording projects and shows. I hope you are well served by them.
Sincerely,
Brent Casey

Hi David,
I took your message in the spirit in which it was offered and totally appreciated the heads-up, but I think I'm having a problem with the English language today - both written and spoken. This generally happens to me during periods of heavy AutoCAD use.
Every once in a while, you hear about a pro-audio company who stops answering their phones (Aardvark, Alesis, etc.) and everybody wonders what's going on. In this case, it seems we had a technical glitch.
So I did get my DHL package, but the caps were not in there :(. I'm about to email the head engineer over in Beijing to see what's up. We did however get samples of a modular shockmount I designed for the CS series. They are made in such a way that a pair of mics can be mounted head to head by means of an extension tube for the purposes of stereo recording techniques such as M-S, crossed X-Y, Blumlein, etc. Everything looks good so far, although, I need to get both the mics and the shockmounts whittled down a bit. The combined weight of the pair in their mounts would be something like four pounds as they are right now - Heavy enough to smash a cat if one were indeed in the shadow of a tipping mic stand. One of the main reasons for this appears to be that the machinists used solid brass in a piece that was specified as tubing.
Awright, back to it. Allayouse have a pleasant weekend.

Brent Casey

Good news on the hypers and that the phone number deal was a glitch!
Any interest in making subcard caps for the C4's?
