cop out answer
-
Today the answer would be AKG 483s. Tomorrow... who knows.
-
Get something you can use in all applications. I own 391/93 and 481/83. I think it comes down to preference. I used to patched out of a guy that had 481/82/83->V2->ad2k and the recordings were amazing hence why "I" when to AKG. You may have other preference. Money will get you the greatest but when it comes down to it, let you ears do the talking rather than somebody else. Everybody has a fav. my .02

I've had a bit of a woodie for a mic by this company, Pearl
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
or,....
Pearl wishes to introduce its new Tube Microphones - the CT40 and the DT40. The CT40 model uses a fixed cardioid capsule while the DT40 model offers a choice of five different polar patterns making this microphone ideal for many recording applications.
These microphones use the classic Pearl dual rectangular capsule, which allows it to achieve
a very flat frequency response. The capsule is mounted in silicone, and then supported on a cone to prevent sound reflections. Further, the microphones are powered by a traditionally designed circuit utilizing a Nuvistor vacuum tube and high quality transformer made with an orphous core material.
This microphone has been carefully developed to produce the best results in many applications. It is manufactured from the very highest quality components to provide the very best sound experience.
To orient the microphone, the sound source must face the PML Logo.
The CT 40 and DT 40 are finished in black chromium. The C4020 Power Supply is connected to the microphone using an 8-core XLR cable, and the output from the power supply is a standard three pin XLR.
The D4020 for use with the DT40 incorporates a rotary switch to select the five different polar patterns.
Both Pearl models are supplied with a flight case, respective power supply, a 10-meter cable,
and the 1942 shockmount.
DPA 4022
I'd probably go with a nice set of U-89s
-
I'd add a pair of MK2s and MK8s, and another set of CMC6 bodies and KC5 actives. And since price would be no object, I'd pick up a Deva V, too.
-
I'd add a pair of MK2s
Same here, and a pair of MK21's too. :)
-
MBHOs... the HO's are great, specially the active setup.
Gefell UM900...LD, tube, 48volt powered...5 patterns...drool
U89's or TLM 170's not sure which I like better.
A full set of caps for my KM100s
A perfect set of KM54s would be nice to. I always loved my friends tapes with the 54s.
I'd at least try a pair of these
HELL YA! That was my answer! Or some AKG c-12's! Or some telefunkens. With money being no object folks would really get Schoeps? Blech.
-
Probably, as a primary rig, the soundfield st-350
(http://www.soundfield.com/news/images/st350.jpg)
http://www.soundfield.com/news/news_st350.php
And for sd i'd work up a schoeps with a pair each of mk21 and mk6 caps, 2pair of bodies, 2 pair actives, you get the idea.
All this would naturally require a 744t to plug 'em into.
And a sherpa for fests.
After sampling other schoeps caps for the hell of it, maybe try the Korby Audio KAT 4 system just because it's cool as shit looking. Includes C12, U47,U67, Elam251.
